Recognition at JUVE Awards 2017: CMS Germany named Law Firm of the Year for Corporate Law

27/10/2017

Berlin – At yesterday’s announcement of the JUVE Awards 2017, CMS Germany was named Law Firm of the Year for Corporate Law.

My congratulations to the practice area on this superb achievement. The award reflects the strong market position built up by CMS. Our lawyers have worked on a large number of complex transactions and acquired many new high-calibre instructions.

Dr Hubertus Kolster, Managing Partner, CMS Germany

The reasons cited in the new JUVE Handbook for recognising CMS include the fact that major corporations have long had the law firm on their radar, partly due to its strong capability in terms of personnel. The Corporate practice has made broad-based progress and, as a result, is gradually closing the gap with the leading law firms, the editorial board added. It also highlighted the team’s growing ability to gain the trust of big company boards. The citation continues: "That also applies to companies now seeking to enter the Iranian market. By opening an office in Tehran at an early stage, CMS made a bold business move, and the first Dax companies are already relying on this special expertise. CMS also excels in advising international joint ventures, outperforming other leading competitors."

Dr Maximilian Grub, who leads the Corporate / M&A practice area at CMS Germany together with Dr Hilke Herchen and Dr Ernst-Markus Schuberth, commented: "This recognition as Law Firm of the Year for Corporate Law is a huge honour for us."

We are proud that the strong progress made by our practice is appreciated in the market. Our clients are increasingly looking for solutions to complex legal issues that cannot be assigned to a single area of law and therefore require cross-disciplinary working. In response, we have focused even more intensively on close collaboration with other CMS practice and sector groups. We feel that this award confirms the success of that strategy.

Dr Hilke Herchen, Head of Corporate / M&A Group, CMS Germany

The award also creates an incentive and expectation for the Corporate practice area with respect to meeting the challenges arising from future market developments, according to Head of Corporate Dr Ernst-Markus Schuberth. "We are well positioned to do that," he added.

JUVE, the industry magazine for commercial lawyers, selects firms with outstanding achievements in the various fields of legal advice during the year. It then honours these firms at a gala event held at the Old Opera House in Frankfurt/Main. The selection process is based on the research that goes into compiling the JUVE Handbook.

Since the JUVE Awards were first launched, CMS Germany has been recognised on numerous occasions. The achievements include Law Firm of the Year for Employment and Information Technology (2016), Law Firm of the Year for Energy (2015), Banking and Finance (2014), M&A (2013), Law Firm of the Year Region West (2012), for Media, for Succession, Assets and Trusts, and Region North (2011), Law Firm of the Year for Real Estate and for Distribution (2010), Law Firm of the Year Region South (2008), Law Firm of the Year for Sport, Insurance, Procurement and Information Technology (2007), Law Firm of the Year for M&A, Media and Distribution (2006), Law Firm of the Year for Promotion of Young Lawyers and for Employment (2005), Law Firm of the Year for Energy, Employment and Dispute Resolution (2003), and Law Firm of the Year for Private Equity and Telecommunications plus Management Team of the Year (2002).
