Diversity and Inclusion in Construction: Extending the Conversation

Past event
23 September 2021, 09:30 - 10:30 UTC +01:00

The business case for having a diverse workforce is made out. Yet, many employers in the construction sector remain in the early stages of their diversity journey. The need for action is put into sharp focus when you contrast the steep rise in activity levels in the sector in 2021 against a 213.4% increase in construction vacancies in Q3 of 2020 (as reported by UK job board, CV library) and the indication that 500,000 construction workers could be on the verge of retiring in the next 15 years.

In this live panel session, chaired by Catriona Aldridge, Partner in the CMS UK Employment team, panel members will share views on the benefits they believe having more diverse workforces brings to the construction industry; thoughts on extending the diversity conversation in the sector beyond gender and; give practical insights on actions and initiatives they have seen work for driving inclusivity in construction.

CMS are delighted to welcome the following panel members:

  • Ann Allen MBE, CEO of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors
  • Gordon Kenwright, SVP and General Counsel at AECOM
  • Mark Harrison, Head of EDI at the Chartered Institute of Building

The event aims to provoke discussion and give practical action points on this important issue and is a must for anyone in the construction sector with an interest in diversity and inclusion.
