2018 has been another year of strong figures for the Central and Eastern European (CEE) economy, driven by low unemployment, buoyant wage growth and an on-going investment boom, with Romania, Poland and Slovenia expected to be the fastest growing economies in the region.

Despite this general upward trend, restructurings are an increasingly common feature across the CEE financial landscape and there is a significant divergence in the nature, type, speed and quality of insolvency and restructuring procedures available to debtors and creditors across the CEE jurisdictions.

Join us for a briefing in which a panel of expert speakers will share insights gathered from the restructuring sphere across the region and explore some of the trends, tools and techniques that are effective in CEE restructurings.

Our panel will debate issues including:

  • The challenges of embracing the ‘restructuring mindset’ for creditors and debtors alike.
  • The use of COMI to find safe harbour – the advantages and disadvantages from a creditor / debtor perspective.
  • Reaching a consensual deal – how is this best achieved?
  • Schemes of arrangement: their use in CEE restructurings – do they really deliver benefit?
  • Negotiating the challenges of restructurings in CEE compared to Western Europe - lessons learnt from recent case studies.

Guest speakers include:

  • Dan Bucsa, Chief CEE Economist from UniCredit; and
  • Raj Apte, Head of Restructuring for Central & Southeast Europe and CIS (CESA) from Ernst & Young.
