Although the UK withdrew from the EU earlier this year the impact will not be felt until the transitional period expires on 31 December 2020. From that date the UK will no longer remain subject to EU law, a change which will affect organisations of all sizes and industries with business links between the EU and the UK.
This session will cover a range of resulting IP issues that businesses should already be considering and various future changes to be aware of:
- Short term: The immediate consequences for the registration and protection of design rights and database rights.
- Medium term: The key changes to how businesses can enforce their intellectual property rights in a post-Brexit landscape and to the rights relating to parallel imports between EU Member States and the UK.
- Long term: A discussion of the scope for the UK to diverge from EU intellectual property legislation, jurisprudence and policies, amongst others.
