Minister gives consent to the transfer of the Weekly Echo to Gannett UK Limited and to Johnston Press plc

On 4th April 2000, Kim Howells gave consent to the transfer from News Communications & Media plc both to Gannett UK Ltd and to Johnston Press plc, of the Weekly Echo and related assets without a report from the Competition Commission.
Dr Howells said that as the market may change over time, the duration of his consent should be limited to one year, or such longer time as he may agree.
