Clare Thomas and Selina Potter named in The Lawyer's Hot 100 for 2019

29 January 2019

CMS Partners Clare Thomas and Selina Potter have been recognised in The Lawyer’s 2019 Hot 100 list, a roster of standout UK lawyers over the past year who have been deemed the most daring, innovative and creative from across in-house, private practice and the Bar.

Clare was singled out by The Lawyer for her role advising Credit Suisse on its long-in-the-making £410m acquisition of 20 Canada Square, during what The Lawyer referred to as the “the largest-ever merger in the UK legal sector.” The report also notes “the real estate star was kept busy by new trends in the market, including the increasing popularity of co-working spaces and smart buildings”. In a deal that showed confidence in the co-working model, Clare led on the £271m acquisition of WeWork’s Europe HQ at Moor Place by an Asian holding.

Selina is widely regarded as one of the leading lawyers in the UK media sector – however it was her regulatory work on Comcast’s acquisition of Sky that made 2018 a landmark year for Selina, according to The Lawyer. As noted in the editorial: “the acquisition was one of the defining media deals of the decade and marks the continued trend of consolidation in the sector.” It goes on to say that “it was a hugely important deal for Potter and indeed CMS, as it amounts to proof of concept of its 2017 three-way merger.”
