CMS advise on the first subsidy-free wind farm in Scotland

4 September 2019

The 46MW, ten turbine Crossdykes Wind Farm near Lockerbie is being developed by Muirhall Energy and their partner WWS Renewables, with funding provided by Close Leasing. This project demonstrates that onshore wind developments can still be viable without government subsidies and is expected to start generating by September 2020.

Once operational, the site will produce enough clean renewable electricity to power over 45,000 homes and offset 70,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. Local communities have been offered the opportunity to buy a 10% share in the project in addition to the £320,000 per annum in Community Investment, providing income for local community groups and contributing towards the Scottish Government’s target for community ownership of renewable energy assets.

The CMS team was led by Gordon Hay, with support from Jimmy Dundas, Laura Sefton, Kirsty Nurse, Louise Macleod, Kayleigh Purves, Keith Simpson and June Gilles.
