CMS advises BOTTLETOP on partnership agreement with UBS to launch #TOGETHERBAND global campaign

During 2019 CMS advised its pro bono client the British luxury sustainable accessories brand BOTTLETOP on the launch of the #TOGETHERBAND campaign in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

BOTTLETOP is a pioneer in the ethical fashion space. Its first iteration in 2002 was a design collaboration with iconic British fashion house Mulberry supporting artisans in Africa and local health education projects. With the BOTTLETOP atelier in Brazil and a workshop in Nepal, it continues to provide skills and employment for communities in challenged areas of the world.

#TOGETHERBAND aims to engage a billion people with the 17 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to create a global community of active citizens, coming together to achieve the goals. The SDGs were devised by the UN in 2015 and ratified by 193 nations. They are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

At the heart of the campaign are 17 sustainably and ethically produced friendship bands in the colours of the SDGs, made from up-cycled ocean plastic from Costa Rica and re-cycled steel from seized illegal firearm metal from El Salvador. With each band purchased, a second band is received to share with someone else to help spread the Goals’ message. The net profits from each #TOGETHERBAND sold will be used to fund life-changing projects. The 17-month #TOGETHERBAND campaign counts down each SDG, one by one, to the end of 2020, the 10 year milestone ahead of the target date for the Goals to be achieved.

The campaign uses creativity and culture to raise public awareness and inspire action to achieve the SDGs through sustainable fashion, contemporary art, music and documentary film in partnership with the UN Foundation, WWF-UK, Project Everyone, to.org, MECA, Global Citizen and UBS as the Founding Partner. A group of high-profile ambassadors has been appointed to promote the campaign, including David Beckham, Naomi Campbell, Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio and Michelle Yeoh and more others to join.

CMS advised on a number of aspects of the #TOGETHERBAND campaign including the main partnership agreement with UBS.
