19 February 2020

International law firm CMS has advised Spencer Ogden, a specialist global energy and infrastructure recruitment agency, on the sale of a significant stake in the business to international private equity firm MML Capital Partners. The sale will support the next phase of its growth.

CMS Corporate partner Katie Nagy de Nagybaczon advised the shareholders on the sale, with Private Equity partner Tom Jameson advising management on the rollover and Client Relationship partner Andrew Quayle advising on share options.

The transaction coincides with Spencer Ogden’s 10 year anniversary. Since its launch in 2010, Spencer Ogden has expanded to more than 400 employees globally across 12 international offices focusing on Renewables, Power and Utilities, Built Environment and Oil and Gas.

Bradley Lewington, CEO of Spencer Ogden comments: “I'm very excited to be partnering with MML for the next part of the Spencer Ogden journey. The investment is most certainly a vote of confidence in our future success & people.”

With the change in ownership, Spencer Ogden will remain focused on its ambitious organic growth plan in core specialist sectors, whilst maintaining its reputation of excellence in delivering niche talent and developing key client partnerships.

Katie Nagy de Nagybaczon comments: “We are pleased to have supported Spencer Ogden and its shareholders through this significant transaction and with MML’s investment, we are confident it will continue on this strong growth path.”

The CMS team also included Lizzie Hunscott (associate), Briar Peat (associate), Aaron Fairhurst (partner), Rebecca Stewart (senior associate) and Mala Patel (associate).
