CMS builds further momentum in Scotland

02/03/2015

CMS is pleased to announce the appointment of partners Shona Frame and Ian McCann, adding further resource to the firm’s growing Construction team in Scotland. This marks the firm’s fourth high profile appointment in just over a month, as CMS continues to build on its market-leading position in Scotland.

Shona Frame, a construction disputes specialist, will be joining the firm from MacRoberts. With over 20 years’ experience, Shona advises on all forms of construction dispute resolution, acting for parties (Employers, Contractors, Sub-Contractors, Professional team and Insurers) as well as legal adviser to arbitrators and adjudicators. She has a dual accreditation by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Construction Law and in Arbitration Law.

Ian McCann, who joins from DWF, will operate across the firm’s Scottish offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Ian brings over 10 years’ experience in all aspects of non-contentious construction law, advising local authorities, developers, purchasers, funders and tenants in both the public and private sectors.

Commenting on the appointments, CMS Construction partner Lindy Patterson QC, said: “With a resurgence of the UK economy and significant success in international markets, it has been a priority that we continue to add partner capacity to our impressive construction team. Adding Shona and Ian will build on our success, and confirms that we have a business with momentum, driven by quality clients entrusting us with a range of their most important work. This is down to the commitment and quality of our team.

These appointments are the latest in a series of significant hires for the firm. Earlier this month, Pieter Bekker joined the firm’s International Arbitration practice, expanding CMS’ multi-lingual, multi-jurisdictional capabilities in advising corporations, investors, and states in connection with international disputes. Meanwhile, partner Robin Hutchison, who splits his time between the firm’s offices in Edinburgh and London, joined from Pinsent Masons in January. His key remit covers planning and consenting including compulsory purchase, European law and contentious matters, with a particular focus on the energy and infrastructure sector.

Caryn Penley, CMS’ Executive Partner for Scotland, commented: “Following the firm’s combination in May, we have seen an increase in activity driven by client demand. These significant appointments represent both the domestic and international expertise that we are able to offer our clients, and reinforce our commitment to deliver a first class client service in Scotland.”
