CMS named European Pensions Law Firm of the Year for second year

International law firm CMS has been named “European Pensions Law Firm of the Year” at the European Pensions Awards 2022. This is the second consecutive year that CMS has been awarded this prestigious title. It follows a string of other significant wins for the team including being named “Pensions Law Firm of the Year” at the Pensions Age Awards 2021 and “Pensions Lawyers of the Year” at the Professional Pensions UK Pensions Awards 2020.

Celebrating their 15th year, the European Pensions Awards recognise and honour the investment firms, consultancies and pension providers across Europe that have set the professional standards in order to best serve European pension funds over the past year.

This award win recognises the CMS Pensions team’s unrivalled position at the forefront of the de-risking arena and extensive European coverage. The team’s 2021 highlights include advising SCOR, a French reinsurer and one of the world’s largest reinsurers, on its £5.5bn longevity transaction with Lloyds Banking Group Pensions Trustees, as well as advising the Imperial Tobacco Pension fund on a £1.8bn buy-in transaction with Standard life, covering benefits of 6,600 defined benefit pension fund members. 

The team remains committed to developing the profession through knowledge sharing, and has led on a number of ground-breaking initiatives including partnering with NextGen, a platform supporting the next generation of pensions professionals to grow their networks and hone their skills, and producing the CMS Guide to the Pensions Schemes Act 2021 - widely considered a must-have guide for trustees across the industry. 

The CMS Pensions team is nominated for a number of industry awards in 2022, including “Pension Lawyers of the Year” at the Professional Pensions Awards 2022 and “Pensions Law Firm of the Year” at the Pensions and Investment Provider Awards 2022. A range of CMS lawyers are also nominated at the Women in Pensions Awards 2022 and Rising Star Awards 2022.
