CMS strengthens Competition offering with key Scotland hire

03/11/2022

International law firm CMS is bolstering its Competition and Trade practice with the appointment of Wendy Nicolson as a partner based in its Edinburgh office.

Wendy joins the firm from Pinsent Masons and has extensive experience advising clients across the UK on public procurement and related competition issues, including in the life sciences, energy and utilities and defence sectors.

Brian Sher, CMS partner and Head of Competition and Trade, comments: “We’re delighted to welcome Wendy to the firm. Her appointment builds on the recent promotion of Jacqueline Vallat to partner and reconfirms our commitment to developing a first-class Competition and Trade practice in the UK. Wendy brings a wealth of expertise in Public Procurement, with a strong sector focus that is complementary to our existing capabilities. She will add significant strength to our client offering and we look forward to the contribution she will make.”

Wendy comments: “I’m delighted to be joining the award-winning Competition team at CMS. Its strong Scotland presence and focus offers me a great platform to build my practice. The firm’s collegiate and supportive ethos resonates with my own values, and I look forward to working with colleagues to build on the success of the practice.”

The CMS Competition team was named Competition Team of the Year at the 2020 Legal Business Awards. It was also commended in the Competition & Regulatory Team of the Year category at The Lawyer Awards 2022 for its role advising Cadent Gas on its successful CMA appeal to Ofgem’s decision in the “RIIO-2” price control, in what was one of the highest profile regulatory competition instructions in the UK in recent times.
