CMS welcomes Eoin O’Shea as Head of White Collar Crime

6 July 2020

International law firm CMS is pleased to announce the forthcoming appointment of Eoin O’Shea as Head of White Collar Crime in the firm’s Corporate Crime practice, which he will lead alongside partner Omar Qureshi, Head of Corporate Crime. Eoin will join from Reed Smith.

Eoin is dual-qualified barrister and solicitor (England and Wales, and Ireland) with extensive experience acting for corporates and senior individuals on bribery, corruption, anti-money laundering, fraud and regulatory investigations, both civil and criminal. He is the author of a leading textbook on the law of bribery, and is the Chair of the City of London Law Society Corporate Crime Committee. He has been noted as a leading practitioner in legal directories such as Chambers and Legal 500 for many years, and has been praised for being “fiercely passionate about the rule of law”. His appointment will powerfully reinforce the firm’s already strong practice advising on financial and other corporate crime in both the criminal and civil spheres.

Guy Pendell, Head of Disputes at CMS comments: “We are delighted that Eoin will join our Litigation and Arbitration team, which now has over 115 lawyers in the UK. There has been a huge amount of movement and growth in the Corporate Crime & Investigations space over the last five years. As such, we have identified this as a high-growth area and an important focus for the team. Having a leading practitioner such as Eoin on board adds significant senior capability to the team, providing greater bandwidth to resource existing clients and capture new opportunities in the market.”

Omar Qureshi, partner and Head of Corporate Crime at CMS, adds: “Our Corporate Crime practice has enjoyed significant success over the last few years and we are seeing an increase in demand for new and evolving streams of work, particularly in the investigations space. Eoin’s impressive experience and proven track-record will be of real benefit to the team and our clients, enabling us to better respond to their evolving needs and I look forward to working alongside him.”

Commenting on his appointment, Eoin says: “I am delighted to be joining CMS, a firm I have admired for many years. I am looking forward to working with a great team of people, including Omar, and adding real value to clients. I will leave Reed Smith with nothing but admiration for my colleagues there and good wishes for the future.”
