Neil James is a partner in the International Finance Practice, and leads the firm’s asset-based financing practice. Neil is a well-known practitioner in the asset-based financing sector, and has focused in this area for over 20 years. 

As well as asset-based lending, Neil is also experienced in a wide range of other bank financing areas, including corporate lending, leveraged finance, and trade finance. His expertise includes acting for senior, mezzanine and other lenders and borrowers in bilateral and syndicated transactions and for lenders (both in the UK and the US) in large-scale asset-based financings, primarily on a cross-border basis. Recently, Neil’s practice has extended to alternative lending and peer-to-peer financing.

Neil has worked on a range of project financings, in the telecommunications, mining and oil sectors (including those utilising reserve-based financing techniques). He has acted for the senior bank lenders and arrangers, including for international treaty organisations, as well as for the borrowers in these transactions.

Neil is a frequent contributor to leading financial journals and publications, in particular in the asset-based sector, including ABF Journal, The Secured Lender, Hedge Fund Journal and Financier Worldwide. He has presented at a number of conferences on asset-based financing, including the Commercial Finance Association’s Annual International Lending Conferences.
