A new Age of Enlightenment in International Arbitration?

Looking ahead to the 2020 ICCA Conference in Edinburgh

6 January 2020

We are now less than 6 months away from when the ICCA 2020 Congress, the largest arbitration conference in the world and for which CMS is the platinum sponsor, comes to Edinburgh. As we count down to the Congress, our offices from across the world have prepared nine thought leadership pieces on the theme of the Congress – “Arbitration’s Age of Enlightenment.”

In keeping with that theme we have taken inspiration from nine Enlightenment thinkers to discuss a current arbitration issue. We will release the articles in three parts in the run up to the Congress.

The first three articles in the series focus on key thinkers from the British Isles – Adam Smith, Adam Ferguson and Mary Wollstonecraft. Lawyers in our Scottish, German and Singapore offices look at their works to discuss technology, emergency procedures and diversity in international arbitration. We look forward to sharing further articles with you during 2020.
