Is the future female?

I’ve read many articles on why this slogan is problematic, as it seems to suggest that the future may not be male? I disagree, and not in a feminist slogan bearing sort of way but more so objectively because the future of entrepreneurship could certainly do with creating opportunities for advancing more females. In the buzzing minefield territory of gender equality, I am excited to read about BVCA’s works with HM Treasury for launching the Investing in Women Code (“Code”).

The Code is a commitment by financial services firms to improving female entrepreneurs’ access to tools, resources and finance. Signatories to the Code are expected to deliver on their commitment by having a nominated member of senior leadership team responsible for supporting equality in all their interactions with entrepreneurs. All of this data is also shared with HM Treasury to further back the commitment to working in partnership to make UK one of the most attractive countries in the world to start, grow and advance female led businesses. Founding signatories to the Code include leading banks, VC firms, and angel investors (e.g. NatWest, RBS, Barclays, UKBAA and many more).

In April 2019, we hosted the CMS equIP #LeadHers event where leading industry women shared their struggles, triumphs and deeply personal insights with female founders on how they secured funding for their companies. Reading about the Code today would resonate with many nods from that day, as it is a promising step towards solving one of the biggest hurdles female founders face. On that note, I remain convinced, the future of entrepreneurship is indeed not just male.
