Frequently asked questions

What is the status of the draft Media Bill?

The draft Media Bill recently went through a process of pre-legislative scrutiny, where it was considered by the DCMS Select Committee. The Committee received written evidence from industry stakeholders, before calling representatives from key media companies or bodies to give oral evidence and recommendations on the draft Media Bill. Our reports of each phase of this consultation can be found here. The pre-legislative scrutiny of the draft Media Bill has now concluded, and we expect the Report Stage, which gives MPs an opportunity, on the floor of the House of Commons, to consider further amendments to the draft Media Bill, to take place over the coming weeks. Keep returning here to our Media Bill Tracker, as we will be following the Bill’s progress and regularly updating this site.
