At the Women in Telecoms and Technology event this evening I was disappointed to hear about the gender gap in mobile phone ownership, but encouraged to hear about the efforts to reduce the gap. There were interesting insights from the mobile world congress regarding 5G, AI in mobile, and big players from the fields of social media and internet retail moving into the enterprise market. Use of chat bots was a big theme as well as 5G usable terminals.
"There remains a substantial gender gap in mobile phone ownership in low- and middle-income countries, with women 10% less likely than men to own a mobile.[3] This translates into 184 million fewer women than men owning a mobile phone across these countries."
