Partner Interview

Tom Page

∙ What will be the most important market trend affecting your clients’ sector over the next 12 months? ∙

Technology and distribution are the biggest market trends affecting the hotels sector, driving much of the consolidation in the market. Marriott has bought Starwood in a giant merger to increase the power of their loyalty and distribution system, while AccorHotels has taken a slightly different strategy by buying multiple technology and sharing economy companies such as Travel Keys, Fastbooking and onefinestay.

∙ What are the trends shaping the legal industry? ∙

Technology is also a driving force in the legal industry. As a member of the firm’s IT Advisory Committee, we look at new innovations such as Surface Pro computers to help improve mobile working and artificial intelligence products such as Kira and Brainspace to advance the efficiency of our work.

∙ If you weren’t a lawyer, how would you earn your living? ∙

In 2001, I helped two friends co-found an entertainment business running comedy and fringe theatre festival venues. This is now a multi-million pound business of which I remain a non-executive director. If I wasn’t a lawyer, I would love to be working there full time.
