COVID-19 travel restrictions for non-EU citizens in Bulgaria

1. Requirements for entry from EU and non-EU countries

  • The current Ordinance of the Ministry of Health (Ordinance РД-01-416/04.06.2021) is valid from 5 June 2021 until 31 July 2021. There is no information what will happen after that.
  • Bulgaria does not differentiate between business and leisure trips. The requirements apply regardless of the reason for the travel.

2. Requirements for proof of vaccination

  • Ukrainian citizens may enter Bulgaria, if they are able to present one of the following:
    • Document showing completed vaccination course. Completed vaccination course means that the person has received the appropriate number of doses of a government-approved vaccine against COVID-19 (listed in Annex 1 attached here) and that 14 days have expired since the date of administration of the last dose. A combined administration of a single dose of Vaxzevria / AZD1222 vaccine with a single dose of Comirnaty / BNT162b2 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine) is also considered a completed vaccination course. For the rest of the vaccines that the Bulgarian government approves, see the attached file. The document showing proof of vaccination must contain the names of the person written in Latin in accordance with his/her passport; date of birth; date of the last administered dose; serial number of the dose; total number of vaccine doses; trade name of the vaccine; name of manufacturer / market authorisation holder; country that has issued the document; and name of the competent issuing authority.
    • Document showing a positive result of a PCR or rapid antigen test for COVID-19 for the persons who have suffered from COVID-19 for the period from the 15th to the 180th day from the date of the positive COVID-19 test (as shown in the respective document). The document must contain the names of the person written in Latin in accordance with his/her passport; information about the medical centre that carried out the test (name, address, or other contact data) or about the authority, which issued the document; test date; prescribed test method written in Latin (PCR or RAT); and test result written in Latin (Positive).
    • Negative result from PCR test dated no more than 72 hours before the travel or negative result from antigen test dated no more than 48 hours before the travel. The document must contain the names of the person written in Latin in accordance with his/her passport; information about the medical centre that carried out the test (name, address, or other contact data); test date; prescribed test method written in Latin (PCR or antigen); and test result written in Latin (Negative).
  • Currently, those requirements apply to all Bulgarian and EU citizens entering Bulgaria.
  • Ukrainian citizens who pass through Bulgaria in transit and are able to guarantee immediate departure are not required to provide any of the above.
  • Children under five years are allowed to enter Bulgaria without providing any documents.
