CMS advised HNA Group, a global conglomerate focused on aviation, tourism, logistics and financial services, on the high value sale of TIP Trailer Services to I Squared Capital, a New York-headquartered private equity firm focusing on global infrastructure investments.
Headquartered in Amsterdam and operating in 17 countries, TIP provides trailer leasing and rental, maintenance, repair and value-added solutions to transportation and logistics customers. It is one of the leading companies in its field, in markets across Europe including Germany, the UK, Italy, France, Spain and the Benelux countries, as well as Canada. Since its founding in 1993, HNA Group has evolved from a regional airline based on Hainan Island in southern China into a global company with over USD 145 billion in assets and more than USD 100 billion in annual revenues based on 2017 figures, primarily across America, Europe and Asia.
After the transaction documents were signed in May 2018, the sale involved a complex pre-completion reorganisation and the CMS team, including in Amsterdam and Hong Kong, worked across time-zones to ensure the deal was completed on time.
