What is the best way to stay connected to the issues that affect your clients?
Someone once likened being a disputes lawyer to selling coffins – no one wants to think about them... Therein lies the challenge of all disputes lawyers: how do you ensure you are at the forefront of a client’s mind when a dispute arises? The best way to achieve this is to stay in regular contact with them, be it by forwarding something you think they’ll find interesting or finding another reason to remind them that you exist.
What was the most interesting cross-border, cross-discipline project that you were involved in?
Those connections that I never even considered would lead anywhere have, in many cases, turned out to be the most fruitful. You don’t always know who you will like and respect (and who will like and respect you!), but some very interesting opportunities have arisen with people with whom, for whatever reason, I get on well.
FaceTime or face-to-face?
A good mixture of both. Everyone is busy, but FaceTime will never replace a well- timed in-person meeting supported by all involved parties.
