Editorial

Dear reader,

Competition law has become a daily concern of Belgian companies or should be, owing to the constant increase of cases examined by the European Commission and the Competition Council and the risk that these cases represent in terms of public image and fines, as these could amount to 10% of the total turnover of the undertaking concerned.

However, notwithstanding this risk, these rules are still largely ignored or underestimated. This is why CMS DeBacker is launching a series of Competition lunches.

The first will be devoted to the exchange of information between competitors and will take place in French and Dutch, early February. Be sure to register for this free event, which aims to familiarise you with the practical aspects of Competition law. You can register here: French (6 February) and Dutch (7 February).

This month’s newsletter covers such topics as: the supreme courts’ striking of the sales blackout period, the non-tax deductibility of competition fines, the European Commission approving the creation of the UK’s Green Investment Bank and many more.

Have an enjoyable read!

Finaly, let me wish you and your loved ones a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Annabelle Lepiece
Partner and Head of the EU Competition practice
