Talent Development

CMS is continually seeking talented people

CMS is continuously engaged in employee development. We offer every employee the opportunity to not only achieve the best results every day, but also to further develop themselves. After all, our employees are our most valuable asset.

CMS Academy training courses

When you start at CMS as a lawyer, notary or tax specialist, there are several training courses you can participate in. These training courses are offered by the CMS Academy. In the first three years you will start with a training carousel in which various intervision, soft skills, theory and skills courses are offered. Even after these three years, we continue to offer appropriate training courses that fit your position.

Learning Hub

In addition to live training sessions, the CMS Academy also offers digital training through its online Learning Hub. Multiple e-learnings and webinars are offered through this international platform. These short, on-demand trainings allow you to develop at any time.

CMS Legal Tech Academy

CMS offers a yearly in-house training programme called Legal Tech Academy, in which participants are taught every six weeks by various experts on technology topics such as artificial intelligence, metaverse, blockchain, NFTs, tokanisation, cybersecurity, privacy and legal design in order to train the "lawyer of the future”.

Professional training

After joining the firm, you will start the mandatory Professional Education Programme for the Legal Profession (Beroepsopleiding Advocaten) as soon as possible, either in March and September. This programme takes three years and is completed with an internship certificate. Additionally, you will also participate in the Law Firm School. The Law Firm School is a unique collaboration between eighteen international law firms, highlighting topics specifically relevant to the practice of these firms.

Professional training for the Notarial profession - the Royal Notarial Vocational School (Koninklijke Notariële Beroepsopleiding) - starts in January and September. Once you have been employed for six months, you can start training. After passing the exams, you can be sworn in to be an acting attorney.

When you start as a junior tax advisor, you follow the NOB - Dutch Association of Tax Advisors (Nederlandse Orde van Belastingadviseurs) - professional training for three years. This training can be started at any time during the year.

Secondment

We work extensively with international office colleagues from the CMS network every day. Therefore, it is also possible to work at a CMS office abroad for a period of time through our secondment programme.

''This past year I was on secondment in London for three months. There I worked in the Insurance team. As a lawyer in insurance law, London is the place to build a network in the 'market'. Our team works closely with CMS in London, so it is nice to get to know the people here personally. I got to know many insurers, brokers and (future) clients, so they know how to find us in case of a Dutch claim!''
