Applicants aiming for education outside Europe are given preference. Furthermore, applicants from Stavanger/Rogaland, under otherwise equal circumstances, are given preference and applicants in the age group 20-35 are preferred.

About the Peder Smedvig’s Scholarship Fund

The Peder Smedvig’s Scholarship Fund, since 1992, disbursed more than a hundred scholarships to students pursuing higher education abroad. The intention of the Scholarship Fund is to inspire more students to pursue supplementary education abroad. In the Founder’s experience, studying abroad contributes to academic and personal development, as well as language skill development through encounters with other academic cultures. Through appropriate and long-term management, the fund's basic capital has been maintained for 25 years so we can continue to provide financial support to students. Approximately six scholarships are awarded annually of up to NOK 100,000 per scholarship.

According to the foundation's Deed of Foundation, assistance is to be provided for supplementary education to students who have completed a university degree (such as a Bachelor's degree) in Norway or abroad. It is presumed that the supplemental education is aimed at attaining a Master's degree, Ph.D. or equivalent level. The scholarship is only awarded for full-time studies that last at least one year and lead to a final examination. It is required that the applicants reside in the country of the educational institution during the period of study. It is possible to apply and be granted a new scholarship if a person has previously received a scholarship from the scholarship fund. The scholarship will be disbursed in monthly or quarterly payments. In connection with the disbursal, proof is required that the scholarship is being used in the intended way. After completing the education, the scholarship recipient must provide a written account of their studies to the board of directors. All applicants who meet the requirements for an application will be considered.

All ambitious and qualified students are encouraged to apply for financial support from the Peder Smedvig’s Scholarship Fund. We particularly encourage students associated with Stavanger and Rogaland County to apply, as well as those who are studying finance and economic/administrative subjects.
