Cato works in Kluge's Property & Construction Department. He works in particular with advisory services and dispute resolution in the area of construction law, both onshore and offshore. Cato's other areas of expertise include energy law (oil and gas and renewable energy) and intellectual property law.

Cato has previously worked as a research assistant at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law, department of Petroleum Law, where he wrote a master thesis on "Right to know-how, trade secrets and inventions in complex construction and EPC(I) projects". He has also worked as an associate at Arntzen de Besche Advokatfirma AS.
