Augusto is partner of the Energy, Oil & Gas CMS Grau practice area. Augusto has extensive experience in the hydrocarbon sector in Peru, providing advice to companies in all phases of this activity in the country, since the signing of contracts for exploration, implementation and modifications of such contracts, agreements for the transfer of contractual position, commercial viability announcement, development of the operation and exploitation of them as well as to the trading activities of the oil or natural gas production.

Augusto joined as a partner of CMS Grau in 2016. Before CMS Grau, he began his career as an external legal advisor to important foreign companies, first at Estudio Gálvez Abogados and then at Estudio Muñíz, Ramirez, Peres-Taiman & Olaya, having also been Deputy Legal Manager at Hunt Oil Exploration and Production Company of Peru LLC.

His significant experience in the taxation regime, labor standards and environmental standards applicable to oil and natural gas activities, including fiscal stability regimes and the regime for expatriate workers, is proved by the successful advice he has provided to important local and international clients.

CMS Grau made a significant hire into its oil and gas team: Augusto Astorga joined as partner from Muñiz, Ramírez, Pérez-Taiman & Olaya Abogados, and now co-heads the team with Carlos Hamann. The group handles a good mix of upper, mid and downstream matters. Highlights included advising Enagás International on the complex termination of the $4.3bn concession contract in relation to the Peruvian Southern Gas Pipeline; and assisting Petroperú with the transfer of 75% of its stake in the license agreement for the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in Block 64 to Geopark Perú. Recent client wins include Baker Hughes, Pluspetrol, Perenco and Schlumberger. Jesús Abanto too, is highly regarded for all hydrocarbons-related regulatory and technical matters.

CMS Grau has experience advising power companies on the development of conventional and renewable energy projects, and also regularly assists with public energy tenders and transactions. The firm advises Latin American development bank, CAF, on the $80m financing for the construction of La Virgen Hydroelectric Power Plant and its associated transmission line. It also assisted French capital company Neoen with its bidding process for the construction of a $75m solar plant within the framework of Osinergmin’s fourth renewable energy auction.
