Cecilia Gonzáles is Partner of CMS Grau and has extensive experience in mining contracting, having advised important foreign mining companies in the development of several mining contracts. Likewise, she has a deep knowledge of the environmental and social requirements related to the development of exploration and exploitation of mining projects. She has extensive legal practice in the public sector regarding mining procedures for obtaining mining concessions and state reform in the mining sector.

She dominates the Peruvian mining legislation and knowledge of the different systems of mining regulation at the international level.

Prior to CMS Grau, Cecilia was a lawyer at the Legal Area of the Mining Public Registry.

Relevant experience

  • Glencore Xstrata, assessment in the sale of its entire stake in Las Bambas copper project for more than USD 7,000 MM to a consortium led by MMG. Winning deal as Deal of the year 2014 for Latin Lawyer.
  • Silver Wheaton Corp., advice in acquiring of a silver stream from Glencore Plc ("Glencore") for an approximate amount of USD 900 MM in addition to ongoing payments of 20% of the spot price per ounce of silver delivered.
  • Rio Tinto, assessment in the negotiation and execution of an amendment to the Project Transfer Contract of La Granja Copper (Privatization) with the Peruvian Government, for the extension of the initial period of the Contract before the completion of a feasibility study.
  • Anglo American, advice in the acquisition of 18.1% in the Quellaveco copper project in Peru for up to USD 800MM.
  • Mitsubishi Group, advice in the investment of the Financial Corporation in a Peruvian copper project of a London diversified mining company for USD 700 MM.
  • Silver Wheaton, assessment on the payment to Hudbay for a total amount of USD 750 MM.
  • Glencore Plc (Switzerland), advice on the mining evaluation of Las Bambas copper mine project as part of the supplier's due diligence report and bidding process until the finalization of its sale to MMG Limited for USD 7 B.
  • Minera Chinalco S.A., assessment on the evaluation and restructuring of 189 mining rights comprising the Toromocho Project, one of the largest copper projects in Peru, currently owned by Minera Chinalco Peru S.A., a wholly owned subsidiary of Aluminum Corporation of China.
  • Franco-Nevada, assessment to sign a long-term silver agreement worth more than USD 610 MM with Canadian miner Teck Resources in relation to its interest in the Antamina Project.
  • Goldcorp Inc. ("Goldcorp"), advice in Goldcorp's secondary stock offering at Tahoe Resources Inc. ("Tahoe"), which sold a total of 58,051,692 Tahoe common shares held by Goldcorp for one Gross income of approximately USD 1 000 MM
