Gabriel Sidere is the Managing Partner of the CMS office in Bucharest and Head of the Litigation department in Romania, which consists of over 15 lawyers.
He regularly advises multinational corporations, officers and directors in regulatory, investigative and trial matters. His areas of expertise include white collar crime and securities enforcement – including anti-corruption investigations, fiscal fraud investigations, compliance counselling and complex business litigation. Gabriel has handled cases in securities regulatory inquiries (market manipulation, insider trading etc.), DNA (Romania’s anti-corruption agency) and DIICOT (Romania’s organized crime and terrorism investigation agency) investigations.
Gabriel’s litigation practice includes the representation of clients in complex business litigation and international arbitrations matters. These representations include strategic advice on investment related disputes, as well as helping clients manage responses to government inquiries and representing clients in high-level negotiations. Gabriel has successfully argued motions on Bilateral Investment Treaty claims before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, a member of the World Bank Group.
For many years, Gabriel has assisted public listed companies conduct investigations into allegations of wrongdoing. These investigations have been in a wide variety of industries including energy, financial services, healthcare and infrastructure. He has also served as the Secretary General of the Romanian Coffee Association (founded by leading multinational coffee producers) and as a representative advocate of the cinema industry in connection with the transformation of various laws in Romania – including debates and negotiations with the government and the Parliamentary Committees.
Gabriel is recognised by Chambers Global as one of the leading experts in international commercial arbitration and business litigation in Romania. He is well known for “his vigorous and energetic advocacy” and for his “effective and efficient resolution of disputes in their early stages”. He was recently described in Chambers Global 2015 as a "diversified talent and insightful mind, in terms of understanding the client's situation and needs, and then translating it into a workable plan".
Gabriel is an accredited mediator and certified advanced negotiator with CEDR, and has been a member of the Bucharest Bar Association since 1997.
