The 50th Anniversary Conference of the World Law Group, an international alliance of independent law firms, was held on 30 May - 1 June in Ritz-Carlton. The World Law Group unites more than 16 thousand lawyers providing high quality legal services in 300 offices operating around the globe. The conference was held to discuss a wide range of legal and political issues, including main investment trends in the BRIC countries, anti-corruption laws, improvement of the investment climate in Russia and more. CMS, one of the top law firms in Russia and Europe, acts as an exclusive representative of The World Law Group in Russia.
Among the conference speakers were Inessa Poloubenena, a resigned judge of the Supreme Commercial Court of the Russian Federation (1992 – 2012), Michal Rutkowski, Country Director and Resident Representative of World Bank in Russian Federation, Tricia Mack from NASA, Frank Schauff, CEO of the Association of the European Businesses, and others.
On 29 May, the day before the conference started, the hosting firm CMS organised a welcome cocktail event at its office at Gogolevksy Boulevard 11, opened with a welcome speech by Jean-Francois Marquaire, Managing Partner of CMS Russia, and David Kay, President of the World Law Group.
As Russia was approaching the Children's Protection Day, CMS together with the Charitable Foundation “United Way”, arranged a charitable exhibition of paintings “Beauty helps” coinciding with the opening of the conference. The exhibition included the artwork by children under care of St. George School, Children's Hospital named after Speranskiy and orphan homes in Kaluga. The artworks were available for a donation to the Charitable Foundation “United Way”.
