Protecting trade marks across Europe

"We like that CMS provides clear advice as to the best way to proceed, particularly when it comes to the potential infringement of third party rights."
World-leading Tech Company

We are retained by one of the world’s leading tech companies to protect its UK and EU trademarks, which is a key aspect of its global business strategy.

Our work involves undertaking clearance searches for new brands, filing new trademark applications, dealing with any oppositions as well as filing oppositions against third party marks which are too similar. We also advise on infringement issues. The company has worked extensively with our IP teams in the UK, Poland and Austria and has also started instructing colleagues in the Netherlands and Germany.

The in-house counsel commented, “We value lawyers who understand our business and CMS’s expertise in the technology sector and the effort they take to really get to grips with our offering is a big factor in our choice of outside counsel. Providing commercial advice is also very important. We don’t want attorneys who sit on the fence. We like that CMS provides clear advice as to the best way to proceed, particularly when it comes to the potential infringement of third party rights.”

The CMS team undertook a large project last year, handling the trademark aspects of the rollout of a new flagship suite of software  with its new branding and icons. We also created a fixed-price trademark clearance product for the tech company, enabling it to secure clearances across Europe via a single point of contact in London.
