CMS Slovenia Welcomes Two New Partners

A move that strengthens several important practice areas at once

13/03/2017

With Maja Žgajnar and Dunja Jandl, two experienced lawyers are joining the team at CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz. CMS has been active in Slovenia already since 2008, when it established an office in Ljubljana. The two new additions will further intensify and extend the existing focus areas of the consulting practice the team has developed over the past ten years. After all, both of them have extensive experience in dealing with major projects on the Slovenian market. The two lawyers will focus on the fields of real estate, litigation and banking & finance.

Slovenia has long been a strategically favourable location for companies and an attractive target for investors. CMS has become a leading law firm in the local market over the past years, which is not least due to its strong and experienced team. And the law firm will continue on this path in 2017: Dunja Jandl and Maja Žgajnar - two lawyers who have worked on many significant deals on the Slovenian market over the past 11 (Dunja) and 15 (Maja) years - joined CMS Slovenia in February and March, respectively.

Gregor Famira, partner at CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz and head of the CMS office in Ljubljana, comments, "In a market as small as Slovenia, it can be difficult to recruit the best people. The fact that as many as two of them will are joining us bears witness to our outstanding work and the interesting client structure of our office in Slovenia. We are happy that Dunja Jandl and Maja Žgajnar decided to join CMS - both the team and our clients will benefit greatly from this step."

Maja Žgajnar is specialised in banking & finance. As she has supported almost all major banking & finance projects in Slovenia in the past years, she will contribute her extensive experience in this field to CMS. She advised, for example, in the course of the restructuring of the Slovenian conglomerate Istrabenz, which involved 20 banks and liabilities in the amount of close to EUR 1 billion. She also supported a client in the restructuring of Pivovarna Lasko, Slovenia's largest beverages producer, with an outstanding loan debt of EUR 370 million. Furthermore she was involved in the most important NPL sale (ACH d.d. loans) of the Slovenian bad bank DUTB d.d. to the Bank of America Merrill Lynch (value over EUR 160 million). International market observers such as IFLR regard Maja Žgajnar as one of the leading legal experts in Slovenia.

Dunja Jandl returns to CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz after a two-year break and will again contribute her expertise in the fields of real estate and real property. Real estate, without a doubt one of the most important practice areas at CMS, is now again represented by a partner specifically devoted to this field in Slovenia. Through this appointment, CMS also responds to the positive developments in the Slovenian real estate industry expected for this year. Against this backdrop, particularly Dunja Jandl's expertise in project development and regulatory questions in areas such as environmental and energy law will be much sought after. Strabag, CTP, Bauhaus and Spitzer GmbH are just a few of the clients she advised in the past years. Dunja Jandl will also head the office's litigation team.
