Mawande is a Senior Associate at CMS South Africa specializing in data privacy, regulatory compliance and forensic investigations. 

He completed his LLB in 2015 at the University of the Witwatersrand. In his final year of University, Mawande was recruited by Leadership 2020 to join their platform and network of young leaders spanning across the African continent.

Mawande regularly advises and assists both local and multinational clients on various aspects of data privacy legislation in South Africa. His experience includes advising multinational clients on compliance with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act No.4 of 2013 (POPI), which involves the development and implementation of POPI compliance programmes, the drafting, review and/or amendment of privacy policies/data processing agreements and assisting clients with data breaches. 

He advises and assists clients with matters relating to the Promotion of Access to Information Act No.2 of 2000 (PAIA), which includes advising clients on compliance with PAIA as well as advice on preparing and/or appropriately responding to information requests in terms of PAIA. 

Mawande also regularly assists clients with highly sensitive and confidential matters relating to corporate crime and forensic investigations. He advises on various aspects of Anti-bribery and corruption compliance, cybercrime, corporate crime prevention and money laundering.
