Editorial

Dear reader,

The continuous development of “new technologies” fundamentally changes the way businesses function and labour is organized.

This evolution raises issues in the relationships between companies, between companies and their clients and between companies and their staff. The legislator tries to keep up the pace but one could ask oneself whether recently adopted laws are adapted to the environment they intend to regulate.

This is the case regarding recent texts regulating the use of communication technologies at work. Their correct application is set among other under the control of the Privacy Commission, which is starting a broad public consultation on cyber surveillance in the workplace.

When legal issues are in full development, getting access to concrete and up-to-date information is a challenge. The upcoming FEB-VBO seminar “Privacy and New Technologies”, with the cooperation of CMS DeBacker, as well as the present newsletter, aims to provide this valuable information.

In this edition, our lawyers cover the most recent developments in IP and technology, banking and finance, insolvency and restructuring, public procurement and PPP, competition and EU law, and health care, as well as in tax and estate planning.

To end this editorial, we are proud to announce that CMS DeBacker has been recognized as the Best Belgian Full Service Law Firm of the Year by Corporate Int’l.

Enjoy your read!
