ESG

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria are at the forefront of corporate strategies, due to investor, customer and regulator expectations. The topic has been gaining momentum and is expected to accelerate in the coming years.

ESG is broadening its scope of influence to cover all economic and policy sectors now. From energy, finance and urban planning to tax – these are just a few of the areas that are being impacted.

We advise clients – from multinationals to start ups – in all sectors and areas of ESG-related law, including future mobility, climate change strategies, ESG due diligence and risk assessments, corporate digital responsibility, sustainable supply chains, whistleblowing, ESG funds and green real estate finance.

At CMS, our approach is integrated and multidisciplinary – this enables us to anticipate and understand the issues in the rapidly evolving ESG landscape which in turn allows us to develop innovative solutions for and with our clients.

With their in-depth expertise in these areas, our teams of lawyers around the world identify risks and threats while seizing opportunities arising from the increasing focus on ESG for our clients.

Our aim is to help our clients successfully meet the demands of climate change, technological disruption, urbanisation and social concerns.

Please contact any of our ESG lawyers to explore solutions to your needs.

Emerging Europe M&A Report 2022/2023
The year 2022 started with various challenges, including rising inflation and energy prices. Then the Russian invasion of Ukraine added yet another one. Nonetheless, the M&A market in emerging European countries proved to be extremely resilient. The region saw M&A activity maintain a steady pace, though deal values were notably lower. Also, variations could be observed across territories and sectors. While 2022 brought a unique set of challenges, dealmaking largely compared favourably to pre-pandemic levels.Welcome to the 2022/23 edition of the Emerging Europe report.

CMS ESG Talks
Everyone is talking about ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) standards against which the markets are assessing businesses’ impact on society and the environment, how they are conducting business, and their transparency. Having an ESG framework within an organisation is crucial and will become paramount in the future, not only to attract investments, but also to reduce risk, lower cost, improve reputation and attract new customers. This trend will not bypass Bosnia and Herzegovina, or the region, and the aim of this event is to support the financial services and large corporate sectors to optimise their ESG-related opportunities, as well as to manage the associated risks. Join CMS experts from Austria, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Turkey to explore the key legal developments regarding ESG that have already been introduced or are imminent from both the EU and the non-EU perspective. Learn about the state of ESG affairs in Bosnia, what our neighbours are doing and the regulations we can expect from the EU.      Our second panel will showcase the market’s view on ESG. Join our respected speakers from three renowned international institutions—the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Finance in Motion (FiM)—to hear about the global impact of ESG generally and in relation to access to financing. We will also be joined by a unique commercial bank operating in the Southeastern Europe region that is already active in ESG. This event will provide plenty of opportunities to interact with our expert speakers and industry participants through the moderated panel and Q&A sessions as well as the networking cocktail drinks that will offer a fruitful and pleasant conclusion to this event.
