2022

CMS tops JUVE ranking in employment law again

Every year, one issue of the JUVE industry magazine focuses on Austria's best employment law firms. In the 2022 rankings, the CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz employment law team is in the top position once again.

The CMS team around practice group head Bernhard Hainz – partners of different generations, Christoph Wolf, Jens Winter and Andrea Potz – was again ranked first in 2022 and was the only law firm to receive the full five stars in the area of employment law. A market participant praises the team in the highest terms:

“As a group, they can't be beaten; they complement each other perfectly.”

In its article, JUVE speaks of CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz's “employment law practice which continues to outshine all the others” and places particular emphasis on the team’s effective cross-generational cooperation and support of its young talent: “Such strategic long-term team building tends to be [...] the exception in the Austrian employment law market.”

As an example of litigation strength, the team recently obtained compensation for Österreichische Post from the Republic of Austria for continued payment of wages during quarantine-related work absences.

2022

Chambers Europe Rankings 2022

This year’s rankings of Chambers Europe have been published. Yet again, CMS (RRH) achieved very good evaluation results.

The Chambers Europe awards and rankings are among the most prestigious in Europe and are the culmination of the in-depth and independent research conducted by Chambers and Partners. Chambers awards reflect not just a law firm's pre-eminence but also highlight impressive strategic growth, excellence in client services and notable achievements over the past twelve months.

CMS has been recognised by Chambers Europe as the best law firm (Band 1) in CEE in three out of four categories – Banking & Finance, Corporate/M&A and Projects & Energy. In the fourth CEE category - Real Estate - CMS was ranked in Band 2.

Chambers Europe ranked CMS RRH seven times Band 1 in five different areas and five countries; six of our lawyers are Band 1 individuals. Altogether 26 individual lawyers got ranked.

Healthcare & Life Science

​Healthcare & Life Science is a completely new category for Austria and we are pleased that we managed to rank in Band 2 with our Team around Gabriela Staber, who also got ranked Band 2 as an individual lawyer, in the first attempt.

One client calls the team "pragmatic and hands-on" and praises its comprehensive expertise and commercial understanding: "What I like about working with CMS is the fact that they can cover a wide range of legal topics when there are overlaps with other areas." Employment Law

We are also particularly pleased about the repeated great ranking of the CMS RRH employment law team and that CMS in CEE is now in Band 1 in employment law for the first time across Europe.

As has been the case for 20 years, our CMS RRH employment law department has again received the highest possible ranking in Band 1 from Chambers. CMS has been also listed for the first time this year by Chambers as one of the leading employment law firms in Europe (Band 1). Furthermore, the CMS RRH employment law department was ranked as "Leading" by Leaders League this year and recently received the "Flagship" qualification from Juve.

2021

Best Lawyers Ranking 2021: CMS in Vienna wins further accolades

The best lawyers and law firms in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland have once again been brought before the curtain, this time in the annual Best Lawyers Ranking, based on a peer-to-peer survey and published by the US specialist publisher Best Lawyers in cooperation with the German Handelsblatt. In 2021, CMS can be delighted about the numerous times its Austrian office was mentioned: CMS was awarded “Law Firm of the Year” in the area of corporate law, and corporate law expert Peter Huber was named “Lawyer of the Year” in this practice area. Another reason to be pleased: in the category “Best Lawyers”, 39 CMS lawyers from various fields have been personally singled out and thus particularly recommended:

Chambers Europe Awards 2021: CMS named CEE Law Firm of the Year

International law firm CMS has been named CEE Law Firm of the Year at the Chambers Europe Awards, where CMS has once again been recognised as the leading law firm in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Chambers Europe Awards, presented annually by British specialist publisher Chambers and Partners, offer an insight into which law firms have taken a leading position. They reflect achievements made over the last 12 months, identifying outstanding performances and great client successes.

CMS last won this award in 2016, and this most recent win recognises the firm’s excellent work across its CEE offices.

CMS in Austria strongly represented in the Best Lawyers Ranking 2020

Once again, the US specialist publisher Best Lawyers, in cooperation with Handelsblatt, has published this year's ranking of the best lawyers and law firms in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. As in previous years, CMS in Austria can take pride in its numerous nominations: a total of 21 CMS lawyers are currently recommended by Best Lawyers. In the field of labour law, CMS was not only named Law Firm of the Year for the second time in a row, but labour law expert Christoph Wolf was also named Lawyer of the Year.

"Law Firm of the Year", "Lawyer of the Year" and "Best Lawyers" – CMS’s appearance in all three categories is ensured by CMS Partner Christoph Wolf and the employment law team, as well as numerous other partners and lawyers in the international commercial law firm from a wide range of legal fields. 

CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz unchallenged at the top of the JUVE ranking

Unaffected by any crises and upcoming changes in the market, CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz takes first place in the field of "Labour Law".

JUVE recently published its ranking in the field of labour law. Here the CMS RRH team around the experienced practice group leaders Bernhard Hainz and Christoph Wolf took first place. Colleagues and clients alike enthuse about the team and its leaders in their evaluations; one professional colleague is quoted:

"The best labour law team in Austria. They also have the best junior lawyers and most attractive mandates".

The strength of early-career team members, such as Andrea Potz or Andreas Jöst, is also emphasised.

CMS in Who’s Who Legal!

Bernt Elsner and Robert Keisler (CMS Vienna) have been listed in Who’s Who Legal: Government Contracts 2020. CMS achieved the largest number of listings of any law firm in this field!  

Furthermore, CMS is the WWL Firm of the Year 2020 in the field of Government Contracts!

Since 1996 Who’s Who Legal (WWL) has identified the foremost legal practitioners and consulting experts in business law based upon comprehensive, independent research. In total WWL features over 24,000 of the world’s leading private practice lawyers and 2,500 consulting experts from over 150 national jurisdictions. It is impossible to buy entry into WWL guides. 

In this regard it is worth mentioning that CMS has for some years achieved many individual lawyers’ listings in the field Government Contracts: in 2019 CMS had almost twice as many recommended lawyers in this field as any other law firm.

2020 IFLR 1000 rankings: CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz breaks top rankings in Vienna and CEE

This has been a very successful year for CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz offices in Vienna and CEE, with more than 20 practice group rankings and almost 30 personal lawyer rankings.

The offices of CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz have been very successful in the 2020 IFLR 1000 rankings! We have 10 Tier 1 rankings, six Tier 2 rankings, three Tier 3 rankings and five Tier 4 rankings. ILO Client Choice Awards 2018: CMS Partner Once Again Receives Award

Raško Radovanović, partner in Serbia, have received once again the ILO Client Choice Award 2018. The prize of the International Law Office’s (ILO) award programme continue the successful tradition of CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz of the past years.

Raško Radovanović heads the competition law practice area at CMS in Belgrade, representing clients in all issues related to antitrust, merger control, investigations and compliance. In doing so, he has collaborated with leading companies from a number of sectors. He can also draw on a wealth of experience in dawn-raids and individual exemption procedures, as well as in a variety of compliance programs.
The ILO Client Choice Awards are conferred on lawyers who stand out because of their excellent services and results and the superior quality of their work. What makes the awards even more meaningful is that winners are selected based on input by clients and that an award is thus a direct reflection of client feedback. CEE Legal Matters 2017 Deal of the Year

CMS in Slovenia has won the first ever CEE Legal Matters CEE Deal of the Year Award for Slovenia at the Deal of the Year Awards Banquet in Prague on June 7 for its work on Trigano, a French company, specializing in designing and manufacturing of recreational vehicles and equipment.

Finalists were selected by a first panel of highly-regarded private practitioners in Slovenia and, the winners were determined by a second group of prominent legal experts from across Central and Eastern Europe, evaluating submitted deals signed in the 2017 calendar year based on deal complexity, market (and regional) significance, and innovation.

JUVE Ranking

According to this year's JUVE ranking, CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz is "the leading employment law practice that receives more recognition from competitors and clients than any other". This makes CMS the clear market leader in employment law for industry expert JUVE.

The rankings compiled by the industry magazine JUVE, which are based on around 2,200 discussions and written interviews with lawyers, authorities and clients over the past 12 months, attest to a large number of competitive advantages and the sole top position in their ranking in the area of employment law at CMS in Vienna led by Bernhard Hainz and Christoph Wolf.

2017

ILO Client Choice Awards 2017: CMS Partners Once Again Receive Awards

Milica Popović, partner in Montenegro, and Raško Radovanović, partner in Serbia, have received the ILO Client Choice Award 2017. The two CMS partners were selected as winners in their respective practice areas from 2,500 nominations. CMS partner Milica Popović from Montenegro was awarded a prize in the category “Projects & Procurement” and CMS partner Raško Radovanović from Serbia was selected in the category “Competition & Antitrust” of this prestigious award programme.

CMS Remains Leading M&A Legal Advisors in CEE

The current rankings of leading financial news providers such as Mergermarket and Bloomberg leave no doubt about it: regarding the number of M&A transactions handled in CEE, CMS remained a leading legal advisor also in 2016. CMS was also able to keep its lead as number one in the number of M&A deals advised on across Europe.
While Bloomberg still had CMS in second place in Central and Eastern Europe – regarding the number of deals it advised on – in 2015, the law firm moved up to the leading position in 2016, once again strengthening its position in the sector. Also the results for the category of Europe give the lawyers reason to be proud: Bloomberg sees CMS as the number one regarding the number of transactions advised on across Europe, ranking CMS as the leader already for the sixth time in seven years. CMS also scored well in Mergermarket’s ranking, where it took second place.
Industry observers also noted the law firm’s M&A activities in three other markets that are particularly relevant to foreign investors in Central and Eastern Europe: Bloomberg ranked CMS first place in Germany, the UK and France, a position CMS has already held repeatedly in the past in the case of Germany and the UK. And finally, CMS was also ranked as the market leader in German-speaking countries according to Mergermarket.

2016

Law Firm of the Year 2016 in CEE

The award reflects CMS’s leading position in Central Eastern Europe, the scale of its activity and the high profile and complexity of its work in recent years, as well as the reputation of the CMS teams.

Law Firm of the Year CIJ Award

CMS Belgrade won the Law Firm of the Year CIJ Award for results in commercial real estate sector. CIJ Europe is the leading news provider for commercial real estate in CEE & SEE whose mission is to support the real estate business and networking activities. First launched in 2001, these Awards are the longest running commercial real estate awards event in several countries including the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary, and they have now been introduced in Serbia where CMS Belgrade was nominated in the category of real estate service providers.

Best Managed International Law Firm at MPF Awards

CMS won Best Managed International Law Firm at the Managing Partners’ Forum (“MPF”) Awards, held last night in London. The MPF Awards, in association with the Financial Times and Harvard Business Review, acknowledge and reward management’s contribution to strategy, leadership, the client experience, operational excellence and responsible business across the professional services sector.

CMS tops M&A Legal Advisor league tables in Central Eastern Europe

CMS has topped all of the major M&A Legal Advisor league tables1 in Central and Eastern Europe, advising on more transactions in the region than any other law firm in 2015.

Recommended in “Global Competition Review 2016”

Our CMS teams in Austria and Slovenia have been included in a list of the best competition law experts, as published by Global Competition Review (GCR). GCR provides one of the most important global ranking lists for competition law worldwide. Also included were our CMS colleagues from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain and Switzerland.

2015

Top Ranking in “Energy and Infrastructure” by IFLR1000

It was the first time that IFLR1000 explored the field of “Energy and Infrastructure” and just a few days ago, the international market observer announced its results. CMS fared very well in this evaluation in CEE: with eight top rankings, the law firm managed from Austria is clearly the leader in CEE. This positive outcome is not least due to the fact that particularly regarding the energy industry, CMS advises in all branches.

The Legal 500: Top Placements

For 27 years already, The Legal 500 has been analysing the capabilities of law firms in over 100 countries. In their recently published EMEA Rankings, CMS received top marks. Overall 70 mentions in the two top categories speak for the high quality of service provided across a multitude of fields by the team in Austria as well as in the offices in CEE. On top of that, The Legal 500 has named three partners at CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz “Leading Individuals 2015”.

2014

“Austrian Law Firm of the Year” at the JUVE Awards 2014

Once a year JUVE, the professional journal for business law, scrutinises the legal advice industry. On 23rd October the JUVE awards 2014 were announced. The award for “Austrian Law Firm of the Year” was conferred for only the second time. The representatives of the winner, CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz, were delighted with the distinction and accepted the trophy at the award ceremony, which was held at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt.

The awards have earned a reputation as the industry standard for corporate, private equity, investment banking and legal M&A expertise. Firms are shortlisted by statistical analysis of Mergermarket's M&A database, an authoritative source of M&A league tables, before a panel of independent expert judges decide on a winner for each category.

ILO Client Choice Award for Banking

Günther Hanslik, partner at CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz in Vienna, has received a Client Choice Award by the International Law Office (ILO) for his outstanding achievements in the field of banking in Austria.
The Client Choice Awards conferred by the London-based International Law Office (ILO) recognise lawyers for their superior services for their clients and the unparalleled quality of their work. The winners are chosen based on clients’ assessments. More than 2,000 companies across Europe selected the best law firms and attorneys.

2013

Advocatus Clients’ Awards

Austrian daily newspaper DIE PRESSE conferred the Advocatus’13 Clients’ Award to CMS in overall three categories: labour law, corporate law and M&A, and tax law and law of private foundations. Senior Partner Johannes Reich-Rohrwig received the most votes by clients.

CMS has been named a top 20 Global Elite Law Firm Brand in Acritas’ Sharplegal 2013 Global Elite Brand Index.

2012

CEE Legal Adviser of the Year by Financial Times & Mergermarket

The awards have earned a reputation as the industry standard for corporate, private equity, investment banking and legal M&A expertise. Firms are shortlisted by statistical analysis of Mergermarket's M&A database, an authoritative source of M&A league tables, before a panel of independent expert judges decide on a winner for each category.

Recommended in IFLR1000

CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz has once again been recommended in all countries at the annual ranking of the International Financial Law review, The IFLR1000. The CMS office in Belgrade could once more secure tier 1 in the field of Financial and Corporate, CMS Zagreb ascended to tier 2. The offices in Vienna, Sarajevo, Sofia, Bratislava and Ljubljana, also received recommendations.

The IFLR1000 ranking is based on the recommendations of in-house counsel of the world’s leading financial institutions and companies as well as the leading lawyers, solicitors and attorneys in each legal market covered, focus on the fields of Banking, Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions and Financial and Corporate and is issued annually.

Winner of Advocatus’12 for Labour Law

CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz was awarded the Advocatus’12 prize in the category Labour Law. Once again, the law firm proved its standing as leading provider of legal services in the field of labour law in Austria and CEE.

In “Handbuch Wirtschaftsanwälte”, a manual listing outstanding commercial law experts published by the Austrian quality newspaper Die Presse, CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz is also expressly listed as recommended law firm for the fields of “Construction/Tenancy Law, Real Estate”, “IP, IT, Media, Telecoms”, “Dispute Resolution”, “M&A, Corporate Law, Foundations”, “Public Commercial Law” and “Central, East, Southeast Europe”.

Chambers Law Firm of the Year Award 2012 for CEE

At this year’s Chambers Europe Awards in Amsterdam, CMS received the Law Firm of the Year Award for Central and Eastern Europe for the first time. Along with the award for CEE, CMS also received an award in Hungary and a Client Service Award in Portugal.

2011

Number one in M&A transactions in Europe and CEE

This year again, CMS has confirmed its top position in the M&A sector. Bloomberg has rated CMS as number one not just in one but in two M&A rankings: CMS leads the Europe and CEE rankings in terms of quantity of transactions it advised on in 2010.

Mid-Market Legal Advisor of the Year

For a second consecutive year, CMS has been named Mid-Market Law Firm of the Year by Acquisitions Monthly. The leading M&A publication Acquisitions Monthly, part of Reuters Professional Publishing, had nominated CMS again as firm of the year for M&A transactions up to 500 million dollars.

2010

The Legal500 2010 edition

In the current issue of The Legal 500, CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz was named one of the most successful law firms in Austria and SEE/CEE. A total of seven first-tier listings and entry into a further eleven categories are proof of our excellent work and the trust our clients have in CMS.
