CMS UK Recruitment Privacy Notice

 1.       Scope of this Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how CMS Cameron McKenna LLP in the UK (“CMS UK”) will collect, use and otherwise handle your “Personal Information” in connection with any application you make to us for employment or other engagement.

“Personal Information” is information about you which can be used alone, or combined with other information, to identify you personally.

In this Privacy Notice, references to “we”, “us” or “our” means CMS UK and “you” and “your” are to users of the CMS UK careers pages of this website at CMS.law (the “Website”).

This Privacy Notice supplements and should be read together with, the CMS Privacy Policy, which applies to all Personal Information collected on the Website.

 2.         How and why we collect and use your Personal Information   

When you apply for a vacancy with us, you may be asked to complete an application form and send us a copy of your C.V. via our Website. You may also be invited to complete online tests, interviews and written assessments with us.

The information you will be asked to provide may include contact details, details of your qualifications, employment experience and preferences, as well as details of criminal convictions and your immigration status.

We will use this Personal Information to help us decide if you are a suitable applicant for the vacancy for which you have applied.

You will also be invited (but not required) to provide information to enable us to monitor the diversity characteristics of our applicants.  

If your application is successful, we are likely to ask you to provide information about your health, to ensure you are fit for work and to protect your health and safety at work and your bank account and other financially relevant details, for tax and payroll purposes. If you prefer, you may provide this information outside of our on-line recruitment process.

We will also use your Personal Information to create anonymous recruitment statistics, from which you cannot be identified.

 3.       Retention of Personal Information

If we employ or otherwise engage you as a result of your application, your Personal Information collected by us will form part of your personnel file. This will be stored and used for purposes connected with your employment or engagement by us.

If you are unsuccessful with your application or decide not to accept a role that we offer to you, we will keep your Personal Information to allow us to monitor and improve our recruitment processes, to inform you of any other roles we believe might be of interest to you and for our reference should you re-apply to us.

 4.       Sharing your Personal Information

We will share your Personal Information with those people in CMS UK who are involved in the recruitment process.

In some cases, CMS UK may recruit on behalf of its overseas offices. If you apply for a vacancy through the CMS UK webpage and the role is based in one of our overseas offices, we will also transfer your Personal Information to that overseas office. Please visit the relevant country page on this Website to find out how that office will handle your Personal Information. 

Some of our overseas offices are based outside of the European Economic Area (“EEA”). Locations outside of the EEA may not provide the same level of protection for your Personal Information as those within the EEA.

However, we will only transfer your Personal Information outside of the EEA:

  • where the transfer is to a place that is regarded by the European Commission as providing adequate protection for your Personal Information; or
  • where we have put in place appropriate safeguards by using a contract for the transfer, which contains specific data protection provisions that have been adopted by the European Commission or a relevant data protection authority. We ask for references as part of our recruitment process, but we will only do this with your express permission and knowledge and, especially in the case of current employer references, usually only once an offer has been accepted.

When you register your details with us and/or submit a recruitment application to us, you will be asked to agree to us collecting, using and otherwise handling your Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Notice and the CMS Privacy Policy.
