Cristian Băcanu is a senior counsel in the Litigation & Arbitration team. With extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, Cristian brings a strong background in commercial litigation, legislative development, international cooperation and defence sector related work.
Cristian began his legal career at CMS in Bucharest in the Commercial Litigation department. He later advanced his practice with a focus on civil, administrative, and commercial litigation, insolvency, and dispute resolution, before transitioning to public service.
Cristian has also held high-level public sector roles, including Secretary of State in the Romanian Ministry of Justice, where he coordinated strategic departments and represented the Romanian Government before the European Court of Justice.
Cristian also served as a Member of the Romanian Parliament, where he contributed to key legislative initiatives on human trafficking, rule of law, and telecom regulation.
