On 4th September 2006, a new government for the Czech Republic, led by Mirek Topolánek from the Civil Democratic Party, was appointed by the President Václav Klaus. The government has 15 members, six of whom are non-party ministers, the rest are Civil Democrats. The government has to ask the Lower Chamber of Parliament for a vote of confidence (confirmation) within 30 days from its appointment and has to receive at least a simple majority of the votes cast. According to the distribution of votes in the Lower Chamber and current political situation, it is very hard to say whether the government will reach the required majority of votes (if not then it will have to resign).
The new government is made up of the following members:
Prime Minister: Mirek Topolánek
Minister of Finance: Vlastimil Tlustý (Civil Democrat)
Minister of Interior: Ivan Langer (Civil Democrat)
Minister of Foreign Affairs: Alexandr Vondra (non-party member)
