Dr Shehab Farouk FCIArb is the Legal Director in the Disputes Resolution team, bringing with him 15 years of expertise in international commercial arbitration in the Middle East. His legal practice focuses on providing expert advice and counsel on matters related to Omani law to a diverse range of clients, including local and international entities. Shehab specialises in civil, commercial, corporate, arbitration, and construction law. As well as representing leading construction companies in both state court and arbitral tribunal proceedings he has acted as counsel in ad-hoc and institutional arbitration such as LCIA, ICC, DIAC, SCCA, OAC, UNCITRAL, and CRCICA. 

In addition to his legal practice, Shehab has contributed in drafting the Arbitration and Mediation rules for the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre in 2020, and he teaches International Commercial Arbitration with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb)  to candidates in Saudi Arabia (SCCA) and Oman (OAC). Shehab has also designed and delivered training programs on disputes resolution topics such as "Drafting Dispute Resolution Clauses" and "Arbitral Tribunal Secretary Preparation" for OAC and SCCA. 

Shehab is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) which is the highest level of membership within the institute, and he is the newly appointed Regional Representative for LCIA YIAG for the Middle East in 2023.

Relevant experience

  • Counsel in an arbitration filed by an international construction company based in Kuwait against a governmental entity in a construction claim exceeds RO 29,000,000 /- (equivalent to USD 75,110,000) regarding the construction of infrastructure works in Duqum – Sultanate of Oman.
  • Counsel in an arbitration filed by a construction company (sub-contractor) against an international construction company (main contractor) in a construction claim exceeds RO 3,850,000 /- (equivalent to USD 10,010,000) regarding the construction of a project belonging to a governmental entity in Nizwa – Sultanate of Oman.
  • Counsel in an arbitration filed by a governmental entity against a construction company in Oman with a total claim value RO 13,747,022 (equivalent to USD 35,742,257) as a compensation of defects discovered in its facility in Muscat.
  • Counsel in an arbitration filed by a consultancy firm in Oman against a consultancy firm in Kuwait  in relation to a partnership agreement with a claim value RO 350,000/- equivalent to USD 910,000.
  • Counsel in an  arbitration filed by a well-known construction companies in Kuwait (the contractor)  against the government of Libya regarding the  construction of a tourism complex project, whereby the contractor has been awarded USD 930,000,000 as a compensation for termination of the contract.   
  • Counsel in arbitration filed by construction companies in Sultanate of Oman against international consultancy firm specialized in soil inspection regarding a residential complex in Al Duqum – Oman , with a claim value of RO 10,600,00 – equivalent to USD 27,560,000. 
  • Counsel in an arbitration filed by Omani construction company against a State Owned Entity (SOE) regarding rehabilitation and constructing a new power supply station with a total claim value RO 1,100,000 - equivalent to USD 2,860,000.
