Since spring 2021, CMS Austria has been presenting itself under the motto Future Facing as part of a new global CMS strategy. Astrid Valek, who joins CMS Austria in a dual leadership position, will play an important role both in the ongoing strategic orientation of the firm as well as the related brand repositioning. The experienced manager is now responsible for Business Development and Marketing & Communications in Austria and all CEE locations.
Astrid Valek takes over the two areas at a crucial stage: CMS has only recently committed itself to a transformation process. Increasing digitalisation, innovation, and sustainability are key trends that have fundamentally changed the legal industry. Adapting to these changes requires renewed business development as well as marketing and communication strategies to sustain and support the future-oriented drive of the international commercial law firm.
Astrid Valek can be relied upon to successfully continue the multifaceted management of Business Development and Marketing & Communications at CMS. “We are delighted to have a professional like Astrid Valek on board, who has enormous experience in developing existing enterprises and generating new business,” says Nikolaus Weselik, Partner at CMS Austria.
On the new CMS Future Facing brand strategy, Astrid Valek adds: “The path already taken so successfully includes the development of the brand and of new ways of thinking. Driving this progress forward – as well as our ability to communicate it – together with my expert and proven teams will be one of my main tasks in the coming months.”
Many years of experience in management positions
Astrid Valek combines comprehensive expertise and 16-years’ management experience in business development, strategic and operational marketing, internal and external corporate communications, press and public relations, as well as crisis and change management.
Most recently, she was Head of Marketing at HDI Lebensversicherung AG and won the Gold Advertising Award in 2020 together with her team for the campaign “7 kg LEBENSWERT”. Other positions include Head of Marketing and Press Spokesperson at Österreichische Beamtenversicherung (ÖBV) and Head of Business Development at DenizBank AG. At the latter, she managed the Austria and Germany-wide expansion with 14 new bank branches as well as the development of the Deniz savings plan, which is still a successful product in the universal bank’s portfolio today.
While Astrid Valek's activities in recent years have mainly been in the banking and insurance industry, she also gained early experience in the PR and marketing department of a renowned business law firm. The Viennese-born also has knowledge in the areas of law such as GDPR, the IDD (EU Insurance Distribution Directive), and competition law.
Additional commitments
Astrid Valek is an honorary board member of the Austrian Financial Marketing Association (FMVÖ) and current nominee as "Finance Marketer of the Year", by the specialist portal ForumF (award ceremony in September 2021). Her deepest desire is to prevent poverty among women of old age – which is why she gives lectures and workshops on this subject.
Astrid Valek completed a postgraduate master’s programme in public relations at the Institute of Journalism at the University of Vienna and a postgraduate management programme at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. She followed this up with a professional MBA in Communication and Leadership at Danube University Krems.
