Wistrand has together with CMS Austria advised the Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding Group on its acquisition of the Swedish sawmill group Bergkvist Siljan.

In December last year, Mayr-Melnhof Holz, one of the leading companies in the European sawmilling and engineered wood products industry, entered into an agreement to acquire the Swedish sawmill group Bergkvist Siljan from the investment fund ESSVP IV. Following final approval from the competition authorities, the acquisition was completed on 1 February 2022.

With the acquisition, the three Bergkvist Siljan sites in Insjön, Mora, and Blyberg (all in central Sweden) are added to the current Mayr-Melnhof Holz sawmills in Leoben (Austria), Paskov (Czech Republic) and Efimovsky (Russia).

Wistrand’s team was led by partner Robert Kullgren, primarily assisted by partner Hendrik Kangasmuukko (Legal Due Diligence team lead), senior associate Henrik Aurelius (M&A) and associate Karl-Johan Holmér (M&A). The CMS team was led by partner Rainer Wachter (Transaction lead), partner Oliver Werner (M&A, W&I insurance) and lead associate Marco Selenic.
