Philip is UK and European Patent Attorney based in our Abu Dhabi office. Philip has been working as a patent attorney in the UAE since 2022 and has lived in the Gulf for more than 10 years. He was previously in private practice in the UK, first in our London office then at another IP firm that specialises in patent prosecution and litigation. Before that, he trained in the patent department of one of the world's leading aerospace companies. Philip rejoined the firm in 2025. 

Philip specialises in drafting and prosecuting patent applications globally. He is experienced in managing global patent portfolios and is conversant with the differing requirements of the patent offices in the US, Europe, China, Korea, and Japan. His practice also includes advising on third-party patent rights (freedom-to-operate) and providing opinions on validity and infringement. He also has experience in supporting government intellectual property projects.

Philip has advised a range of clients on their IP needs, including large corporations, universities, and early-stage businesses. He has a particular interest in the healthcare, transportation, energy, and IT sectors.  Philip has a background in design engineering and worked in industry for over ten years before qualifying as a patent attorney.

  • A Chinese-based green energy start-up on strategy for protecting their innovations using the international patent system.
  • A well-known global logistics company in respect of invention harvesting for a revolutionary port equipment management system; preparing, filing, and prosecuting the resulting large number of patent applications.
  • Microsoft on patent prosecution.
  • A UAE-based start-up for patenting their waste management innovations 
  • Appearing as an expert witness in patent matters for a commercial dispute in the ADGM Courts.
  • A MENA government agency on international patent office practice and patent and design laws for a strategic planning project.
  • Various GCC-based universities in preparing patentability opinions, along with drafting and prosecuting resulting patent applications.
  • An individual in respect of an invention ownership conflict with their employer.
  • A large British food manufacturer for preparing and filing patent applications relating to baking innovations.

  • Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).
  • Member of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi).
