On February 24, 2020, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China held a webinar on “Coronavirus Outbreak - HR and Commercial Perspectives to Challenges for Business”. Dr. Ulrike Glueck, Managing Partner and Head of Corporate Practice Area Group of CMS, China and Mrs. Jeanette Yu, Partner and Head of Employment & Pensions Practice Area Group of CMS, China and Chair of the Human Resources Working Group of European Union Chamber of Commerce in China gave an introduction on the topic and discussed relevant questions with participants. Mrs. Flora Yim, Head of Human Resources Greater China & North Asia at Deutsche Bank and Chair of the HR Forum was the moderator for the webinar.
Jeanette analyzed the challenges for business from HR perspective and introduced what companies can do based on the current policies. Ulrike introduced the challenges from the commercial perspective and analyzed whether the coronavirus constitutes Force Majeure and what companies should do to avoid liability for breach of contract.
