Closing the gap between fast-paced technological advances in life sciences and regulatory frameworks
CMS Life Sciences & Healthcare Sector Group’s Forum 2023 provides expert insights, discussion and innovations to meet the challenge
The pressing issues swirling around life sciences and the law will come under the microscope at CMS’s much-anticipated Global Life Sciences & Healthcare Forum 2023 in Amsterdam this week.
A high-level roster of speakers will explore the ever growing gap between technological advances and existing rules and regulations and promote debate about the role legal teams can play in supporting the rapid-paced progress.
Blurring Boundaries – Exploring the convergence of life sciences and law also features workshops that will dive into emerging challenges across the legal, scientific, pharmaceutical industry and will give ample opportunity for discussing actual topics with experts to gain new insights and foster valuable relationships.

Guest speakers include Marc Kaptein, Medical Director at Pfizer, who will share his experiences gained in the COVID pandemic when Pfizer had to chart new territory in its effort to accelerate the delivery of its COVID vaccine.
Simon Neill, Senior Legal Director at Johnson & Johnson, and Joep Rijnierse, Medical Director at Amgen, will lead workshop sessions on the new product liability directive and the future of the pharmaceutical industry, respectively.
Annemiek Verkamman, Managing Director of Hollandbio, will explore the future of the biotech industry and how technological advances can be sustainable and stimulate a healthy society.
Charida Dorder, member of the Dutch AI Coalition, will take participants through the fast-pacing developments in AI and its growing influence on daily life and the impact on life sciences.
Wouter Boon, Associate Professor of Innovation and Sustainability at the University of Utrecht, will also deliver an insightful session on the challenges and opportunities of innovating in the life sciences industry, including and regulatory innovation.
The event, which is being organised by the Global CMS Life Sciences & Healthcare Sector Group on Thursday, October 12, will also address AI, digital therapeutics, the challenges of multi-jurisdictional online pharmacies and the new EU medicines directive.

“The challenge is to think differently and to discuss, explore and find solutions for things that have not yet been regulated – you have to think outside the box, which is why the speakers and the workshops provide a valuable opportunity to examine what can be done to close that gap.”
