Love Actually … needs a lawyer: prenups, trusts, and cross border divorce in common law and civil law systems
A look back in pictures from the STEP Europe conference, hosted by STEP Cyprus. Raphaelle Svara, co head of our Private Clients team, together with Alberto Perez Cedillo and Mark Harper co-animated the panel: “Love Actually … needs a lawyer: prenups, trusts, and cross border divorce in common law and civil law systems”.
The discussion explored how practitioners can help clients select the applicable law and frame their relationship legally from the outset.
The speakers examined ways to strengthen cross border enforceability by drafting prenuptial agreements designed to be recognized in different jurisdictions and discussed how to preserve wealth and protect legacy through smart structuring that safeguards family assets, future income and inheritance, while remaining mindful of legal limits.
