Peter is a counsel and the Head of Dispute Resolution at CMS Bratislava.

He has over a decade of experience in advising clients on high-stakes disputes, often involving complex cross-border elements. Peter has acted as counsel in both commercial and investment treaty arbitrations and has represented clients before all instances of the Slovak courts. He has been involved in arbitrations administered by leading arbitration institutions, including the ICC, LCIA, VIAC and ICSID. Peter has particular experience in representing clients in corporate and post-M&A disputes as well as in disputes in the energy, oil and gas, insurance, hospitality, technology and automotive sectors.

Apart from being qualified to represent clients before the Slovak courts, Peter is also qualified to practice in New York. Prior to joining CMS, he also spent two years practicing in Dubai, UAE.

Peter is ranked as a Leading Associate in the area of dispute resolution by Legal 500, as well as a Future Leader in Arbitration by Lexology Index (formerly known as Who’s Who Legal). 

Relevant experience

  • Three energy companies seeking compensation for under-deliveries of natural gas in separate Geneva-seated ICC arbitrations, with a combined value of approximately EUR 100m.
  • A Slovak energy company in interim relief proceedings before the Slovak courts seeking to injunct a foreign party from continuing with a foreign court litigation.
  • Slovenske Elektrarne (a Slovak energy company) in a VIAC arbitration against Slovakia in a dispute worth EUR 588m arising from the management and operation of  a Slovakian hydroelectric power plant.

  • A major packaging company and its shareholders in an ICC arbitration, civil litigation proceedings before the Slovak courts and various foreign courts, all concerning multiple post M&A claims under an SPA.  
  • Reliance Industries Limited and BG Exploration and Production India Limited against The Union of India in an UNCITRAL arbitration worth USD 1bn concerning the operation of the Tapti and Panna Mukta oil and gas fields off the coast of Mumbai.
  • Tribunal secretary to a sole arbitrator under the ICC Rules in a post-M&A dispute in the mining sector (English language, Slovak law, German seat of arbitration). The arbitration concerned the claimant’s warranty claims under an SPA worth EUR 24mn.
  • UniCredit Bank Austria AG and its Croatian subsidiary in an ICSID arbitration against Croatia in connection with the conversion of loans denominated in Swiss francs.
  • A Dutch subsidiary of an Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala in ICSID annulment proceedings over a EUR 64.5mn award.
  • The United Arab Emirates in ICSID proceedings over the purchase of land on a man-made archipelago.
