12 specialist practice areas in Antitrust, Competition and Trade

The CMS Antitrust, Competition and Trade (ACT) group is a part of one of the largest specialist competition and trade teams in the world. It consists of 225 CMS experts who advise clients in more than 40 countries worldwide on all ACT matters.

Our specialists are competent in advising on merger control issues, general antitrust compliance, unfair competition matters, in supporting clients who are involved in open investigation proceedings, appealing decisions of the national competition authority in the court, and in providing any assistance required for resolving other competition-related questions.  Multi-jurisdictional experience gained through years of extensive practice of competition law worldwide allows our team to present the most complex cases in a precise and clear manner that the clients can easily understand.

Due to our size and wide footprint, we are able to deal with all ACT matters irrespective of their geographical dimension. Where necessary we cooperate with long established contacts from our wider network of law firms everywhere in the world. Our Ukrainian team is advising on high-profile projects in various sectors of the economy, namely energy/oil & gas, fuel, life sciences, automotive, consumer products/FMCG, construction, digital economy,  telecommunications/media, transport and others. Being among market leaders in competition practice, our lawyers regularly take part in projects aimed at improving Ukrainian competition laws and regulations in part of aligning with EU acquis. They are also involved in helping the Ukrainian competition authority build its capacity. Also, we advise clients on all stages of obtaining Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (the AMCU) approval in state aid projects, including municipal projects backed by international financial institutions.

Our clients range from many large multinationals who frequently use our team as their ACT law firm of choice for the entire region (e.g., in Europe), to governments at all levels and also a high number of medium-sized companies.

We use the most up-to-date technical and AI tools to support our business in Ukraine and other jurisdictions.

We hold a renowned annual EU competition law conference which has become a feature in the Brussels calendar.  We publish our regular case law updates on Ukrainian, European and international competition and trade developments at our Law Now service.  Our monthly EU law webinars are attended by in house counsel from around the world. And our group is steered, not just by a management committee of partners but also by an active associates’ group that keeps us innovating to serve clients.
