Moritz Pottek specialises in foreign trade law and EU competition law. In foreign trade law, he specialises in export controls, EU sanctions law and EU trade defence instruments, including anti-dumping and anti-subsidy proceedings. He advises companies on regulatory requirements in international trade, in particular in connection with international technology transfers as well as military, defence and dual-use
Moritz Pottek represents his clients in proceedings concerning foreign trade law and trade policy before the German and European authorities. In addition, he supports them in designing, implementing and developing trade compliance systems and helps them deal with compliance incidents and ad hoc regulatory audits. In the M& A practice area, Moritz brings his expertise in German and EU investment screening law (FDI screening), merger control and the Foreign Subsidies Regulation to bear.
His industry focus is on key technologies, security-relevant industries and critical infrastructure, namely in the semiconductor and electronics, aerospace, defence, energy, telecommunications and public sectors.
Moritz joined CMS in 2019 and has been Counsel since 2024. Previously, he worked for another international law firm in litigation, arbitration and international investment protection.
