International law firm CMS is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Moloney, who joins CMS as a partner from Mayer Brown, and Gigi Ma, who joins the firm as a senior associate, in Hong Kong. These strategic hires significantly bolster CMS’s funds offering in the region.
Serving global financial institutions, private equity and hedge funds, asset managers, and institutional investors, the team advises on public and private fund formation and regulatory issues across Asia, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and mainland China, as well as Europe and various offshore centres. They are also active in the digital assets space, advising on innovative products such as ICOs, cryptocurrency businesses, and robo-advisory platforms.

Paul Moloney has extensive experience advising asset managers and financial institutions on both public and private fund formation and regulatory issues across Asia, Europe and various offshore centres. Paul also represents investors in a range of private investment funds. Paul further advises clients on Hong Kong licensing matters in relation to the Securities and Futures Commission, the Department of Customs and Excise (Money Services Operator licenses), the Companies Registry (Trust and Corporate Services Licenses) and regulatory matters.
Gigi Ma has extensive experience in advising asset managers and financial institutions. Gigi advises on the formation, maintenance and restructuring of private equity and hedge funds including the establishment of the first tokenised real estate asset in Hong Kong. She also advises on post-establishment transactions, authorisation and post-authorisation applications of retail funds, licensing applications and regulatory compliance.
